Chapter : 6. Carbon and Its Compound
Uses and Nature of Carbon Compound
34. Uses of Carbon :
35. Unique Nature of Carbon : Carbon has small size and therefore can form strong covalent bond with other atoms. It forms maximum number of compounds. Our body is made up of carbon compounds like proteins fats, nucleic acids. 33. Other forms of Carbon : Other forms of elemental carbon are carbon black, coke and charcoal. They are impure forms of graphite or fullerenes. Carbon black is obtained by burning hydrocarbons in a limited supply of air. Charcoal and coke are obtained by heating wood or coal respectively at high temperatures in absence of air.
