Bauxite
Bauxite Bauxite is the main ore of aluminium. Bauxite deposits are formed by the decomposition of rock rich in aluminium silicates. Uses : 1. It is a good conductor of heat and electricity. 2. It is used to make cans for various beverages. 3. It can be pressed into a thin foil. 4. Because it is light and strong, it is used in space craft. 5. The bodies and parts of some automobilies are made from aluminium alloy. Production : 1. Orissa - 45 % 2. Gujarat - 17 % 3. Jharkhand - 14 % 4. Maharashtra - 11 % 5. Other - 13 % (Chattisgarh etc.) India is the largest producer of bauxite in South Asia.
