A boy dropped a pebble in the air from a height of 15 meters which fell and settled at the bottom of a pond 10 meters deep. By how much distance did the pebble fall?

Solution :

Let the ground level be assumed at point zero. Then highest position of pebble is = + 15 meters and lowest position of pebble is = – 10 meters .

So, the total distance is the difference between the highest and lowest position. i.e.

Total distance = +15 – (-10) = 15 + 10 = 25 meters

Every floor of a 20 story building is 5 m high. If a left moves 2 m every second, how long will it take to move from 3rd floor to 15th floor?

Solution:

The starting point of the lift is the 3rd floor and the end or finishing point is 15th floor.

The number of floors the lift climbed = 15 – 3 = 12 floors.

The height of each floor is 5 m so the total distance traveled by the lift is 12 x 5 = 60 m

The distance moved by the lift in one second is 2 minutes.

So, the time taken by the lift to move or travel from 3rd to 15th floor is 60/2 = 30 seconds.

The maximum temperature on Monday is 41 degrees C. On Tuesday the maximum temperature is rose by 5 degrees C. An heavy rainfall is on Wednesday caused the maximum temperature is fall by 8 degrees C. Find the maximum temperature on Wednesday.

Solutions :

Maximum temperature on Monday = +31 degree C Maximum temperature on Tuesday = (+31 + 3 ) = 34 degree C

Maximum temperature on Webnesday = 34 – (5) = 29 degree C.
