Chapter : 6. Carbon and Its Compound
Saturated and Un-saturated Hydrocarbons
41. Hydrocarbons : Those compounds which contain carbon and hydrogen only are called hydrocabons, e.g., CH4(methane), C2H6 (ethane), C2C4 (ehhene), C2H2 (ethyne), etc. 42. Saturated hydrocarbons : Those hydrocarbons which contain single bonds only are called saturated hydrocarbons. e.g., - CH4 (methane), C2H6(ethane), C3H8(propene),C4H10 (butane) etc. 43. Unsaturated hydrocarbons : Those hydrocarbons in which valency of carbon is satisfied by double or triple bond are called unsaturated hydrocarbons, e.g., C2H4, C3H6, C2H2.
